Saying goodbye to an old friend is never easy but when they’ve been a constant companion it’s even harder. Our cat or should I say our son’s cat was an awesome pal having gotten him for his 6th birthday they were almost always together. He had numerous nicknames for him but his official name was Merlin and he knew it well.
Our youngest at the age of 21 had spent many nights cuddled with his furry buddy and this loss was hard. But he will cherish the wonderful years they shared together. It’s a hard reminder of how quickly time can pass it what seems a blink of an eye.
The Story of Merlin is a fairytale of sorts his life didn’t start out so great. He was found in a ditch in a plastic bag being the only survivor of his litter on top of the pile. The rescue said they weren’t so sure he would make it. But… Make it he did. It would be more accurate to say he thrived! We adopted him around 3 months of age and he was a feisty little boy. He thought he was the biggest, baddest, cat around upon at the foster home. Upon arriving his new home he came face to face with a creature larger than him and we believe it was his first time seeing a dog. But no worries this was a cat-friendly dog and he was ignored even when he hissed at her. Merlin and Flip became fast friends.
We adopted him around 3 months of age and he was a feisty little boy. He thought he was the biggest, baddest, cat around. Upon arriving at his new home he came face to face with a creature larger than him a dog and we believe it was his first time seeing a dog. The foster he came for had only cats. But no worries this was a cat-friendly dog and he was ignored even when he hissed at her. Merlin and his new guardian dog Flip became fast friends.
Merlin learned to rely on Flip not only for companionship but protection for all visitors.
He was a well-traveled cat that was leash trained and visited places like New Mexico, Colorado, Kentucky and Tennessee to name a few.
The window seat in our house was added to the build just for him to sit in the sun and watch the birds.
So a few years back when his girl Flip passed away he was heart-broken. He searched for her and had a very hard when he couldn’t find her. time Merlin looked for her often for months calling without finding her.
Then with the arrival of puppies, he was the wise old Merlin teaching them the ropes. Over the past 3 years, he grew close to the new pups and learn to let them watch over him as well.
Now passing they are looking for him.
Merlin was a sweet loving cat that missed and will be for years to come. Rest in peace old wizard of a cat that always seemed to know just when his boys need him the most.
