Cherry Lime Slushie

Baby it’s hot outside so bring on the cold drinks.  This is a great drink for parties or just hanging out on a hot summer night.   With the addition on tequila it become a party worthy cocktail or without the alcohol it works as a refreshing drink that even the kiddos can enjoy.  Fresh fruit in a cold drink makes for a winner! Just think you could count it as a serving of fruit now you can call it healthy.

When ever I have fruit  in season I try to freeze some for drinks, pies, sauces, salad dressings, crumbles or smoothies you get the idea.  So chances are I have whatever fruit I might need right in the freezer.  I also like to freeze citrus like lime, lemons and clementines juice as frozen cubes.  Just juice and fill ice trays then when frozen place in gallon zip-lock freezer bags to use when ever you need them. This drink is a combo of frozen lime cubes and frozen cherries.

With frozen fruit and juice cubes it only takes a little effort  to be ready for a party or just a cold drink any time of the year!

The addition of tequila this simple drink becomes a cocktail.

Agave nectar is a great way to sweeten a little without using sugar.

Now for the drink!

Recipe                         Makes 4  12 oz glasses

  • 4 cups ice cubes
  • 10 lime cubes
  • 2 cups frozen dark cherries
  • 1 cup cherry juice
  • 1/4 cup blue agave nectar
  • 4 oz. patron tequila or whatever type you like I used medium aged
  • slice of lime and maraschino cherries for garnish

In the pitcher of a blender add ice, lime cubes, cherries and tequila if using (just omit for non-alcohol drinks).  Blend on smoothie setting of until smooth.  Add to a tall glass garnish and serve.

Enjoy and drink responsibly

In the end we only regret the chances we did not take…
