Ingredients:
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 (14-ounce) cans beef broth

Directions:
Pre-heat the oven to 400°.  Add the onion  Put the onion in a large bowl add the beef, bread crumbs, salt and pepper, Worcestershire sauce and the egg.  Mix to combine everything well and form the mixture into 8 oval patties. Spray a rectangle cake pan with cooking spray place the patties in the pan.  Pour the  beef broth over the patties and bake for 40 minutes.
Gravy:
  • 1 medium or 1/2 a large onion sliced
  • 10 to 12 baby portabella mushrooms sliced
  • broth from the pan plus 2 cup or can
  • 3 Tablespoons flour
While the patties cook,  in a skillet with 2 Tablespoons of oil cook the sliced mushrooms and onions sauté until browned and tender.
Place the onions and mushrooms in a bowl and set aside.  Put the pan back on the heat, sprinkle in the flour, and cook for 2 minutes. Add the beef broth while whisking the flour in and bring it to a boil. Return the onions and mushrooms to the pan, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook until the sauce has thickened about 5 minutes.  Plate the Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and veg.  serve.
